I am Sherlock Holmes.... *ENGLISH ONLY*

I am Sherlock Holmes.

It's more than probable that the very first thing you think about, hearing such a bold statement is: oooooh, so she reckons she can DEDUCE stuff now?

True, I did try. And soon enough it turned out that I'm no good at it. But I DO share a very distinctive trait with Mr Holmes.

I am married to my work.

Then again, I'm sure it doesn't escape your attention, that I do turn John Watson all the way at times. And that is when...I blog about it.

Calling a spade a spade is my kind of thing, so lemme put it rather bluntly: I am a workaholic

The true homebred psychologist that I am, I DEDUCED it all by myself. Read into it, ticked nearly all of the boxes on the: ARE YOU A WORKAHOLIC list by Ms.Golińska and... decided to fight it, before it's too late.

Before I delve into the whys and the hows, before I decide to openly talk about the reasons for such behaviour and before I swamp you with ideas on how to tackle your addiction, let me just leave you with a question, or rather, a thought I have been considering for a while now.
Is it possible to win the fight? Let me just point out here, that it's not me giving up trying or wallowing in the hopelessness of my apprarent addiction to work...this question is a result of a logical train of thought, namely: if you claim that workaholism is an actual condition (which I think is the case), it will most probably be treated similarly to other addictions eg. alcoholism. And if so, then the most crucial rule of every member of Alcoholics Anonymous is not to drink ever again. Once you stop, you stop for good. You become a non-drinking alcoholic. It requires strength, stong will and a great deal of self-awareness. But it's doable, we've all seen people do it, haven't we? Now, by analogy, to fight your addiction and to become a non-working workaholic you would have to ... stop working, completely. This is obviously impossible. My question is: does it mean that if you're a workaholic, you're a hopless case, who cannot be helped and whose predicament can only be tonned down to a certain extent? Or maybe it just means that the name is misleading  and workaholism should not be counted as one of the -ism, but rather as a different kind of condition?

Do let me know what you think! Next time I am going to try and talk about why I think workaholism is one of the trickiest of addictions and what causes people to become addicted to their work.
